BROCKPORT N.Y.- The College at Brockport women’s soccer team got back to their winning ways Wednesday afternoon, defeating SUNY Canton, by a score of 5-0. With the win, Brockport moves to a 6-8 overall record, while the Kangaroos fall to 3-9 on the year.
The Golden Eagles came out shooting early and often in this matchup, registering a whopping 25 shots in the first half. Leading the offensive charge was freshman forward Bri Kovarik, accounting for five of the 25 Golden Eagles opportunities. Kovarik’s hard work would eventually pay off at the 29th minute when she was awarded a penalty kick, scoring her second goal of the 2018 campaign and giving the Green and Gold the lead, 1-0. Brockport would find the scoresheet again minutes later after Maddie Siclare (Hilton) found Olivia Kuter (Churchville-Chili) in the box for a beautiful header off a corner kick, extending the Golden Eagles lead, 2-0.
The second half saw more offensive dominance from the Green and Gold. It didn’t take long for the Golden Eagles to get on the board in the second half– Sydnee Smith scored her first goal of the season just two minutes in off a beautiful feed from Ashley Kabza. The Golden Eagles would not stop there, Lindsey Lovett would get in on the goal scoring action after she took the ball end to end, beating the Kangaroos goalie top shelf and extending the Brockport lead, 4-0. At the 68th minute the Golden Eagles would find the net again, this time it was Brianna Maria Sciacca for her second of the year, putting Brockport ahead by five.
The Green and Gold are back in action Saturday, Oct. 13 when they take on Geneseo for a 4 p.m. matchup.
