The Hilton Cadets (4-1), winners of 4 straight games, debuted at No. 26 in Class AA in the most recent New York State Sports Writers Association poll released earlier today.

Hilton, coming off a 28-15 win over Brockport to reclaim the Cider Jug, was the only new Section V team to make the rankings this week, which also saw a number of teams drop out of their respective rankings.

Aquinas (4-1) and McQuaid (5-0 ) also join Hilton in the AA poll, but the Irish fell 4 spots to No. 8 after their loss to Washington DC’s Friendship Collegiate. The Knights moved up one spot to No. 12 after beating Wilson 38-34. The Irish and Knights are set to do battle at 3 pm on Saturday at Aquinas.

Class A was anchored by Irondequoit (5-0 ) and Victor  (4-1) holding pat at No. 5 and No. 9, respectively, from last week. Undefeated Canandaigua moved up 2 spots to No. 20. Wilson (3-2) fell from No. 16 to No. 23, but that does not include the Wildcats 13-12 loss to East on Tuesday. East’s victory  will surely drop the Wildcats out of next week’s poll and perhaps move East in if the Eagles can get by Leadership this weekend.

Batavia (5-0) and Wayne (5-0) continue to be Section V’s teams to beat in Class B, as the Blue Devils move up one spot to No. 8 and the Eagles two spots to No. 10. Livonia (4-1) rounds out Section V’s representatives at No. 18, the same position it held last week. Livonia’s only loss was to Batavia.

Only two local teams made the Class C poll, with ER-Gananda (3-2) at No. 15. and Penn Yan (4-1) at No. 19. ER-G moved up 2 spots, while the Mustangs didn’t move. Penn Yan and ER-G play in Week 7. Penn Yan hosts Wayne at 1 pm Saturday.

Alexander (5-0) has a solid hold on No. 2 in Class D, owning that spot in the first four polls.  Losses by Notre Dame and Red Jacket dropped those teams out of the poll. Alexander hosts Notre Dame at 7:30 pm Friday.
