Thanks to convincing wins over the weekend, Victor (3-0) and Irondequoit (3-0) continued to hold on to their #3 and #7 rankings, respectively, in latest Class A New York State Sportswriters Association’s football rankings, setting the table Friday night’s Main Event as the Eagles travel east to take on the Blue Devils at 7 pm.
The top teams all won in Class AA, meaning Aquinas (3-0) stayed pat at #5. McQuaid’s (3-0) 47-37 win over St. Joe’s of Buffalo saw it jump two spots to #18.

Debuting at #26 in Class A is Canandaigua (3-0) thanks to its fourth-quarter comeback in a 31-21 victory over Eastridge.
In Class B, Batavia (3-0) continues to be the standard-bearer for Section V moving up one spot to #9 after destroying previously Class C-ranked Letchworth/Warsaw 40-0. Wayne (3-0) and Livonia (2-1) remained ranked moving up to #12 and #18, respectively.

In Class C, Attica (3-0) impressed the voters with its 21-20 win over LeRoy to bounce all the way from being unmentioned to #13. ER/Gananda (2-1) rose to #17, while Penn Yan (2-1) fell to #19.
The new rankings puts greater emphasis on this Friday night’s game as #13 (C) Attica hosts #18 (B) Livonia at 7:30 pm.
Class D, Red Jacket (2-1) followed the pattern of Attica, rising from unmentioned to #8 thanks to a 42-26 win over previous #4 Clyde Savannah (2-1) which fell to #10. Alexander solidified its #2 ranking with a 90-14 drubbing of previous #8 Geneseo (2-1), which fell out of the rankings.
Thirty teams are ranked in Classes AA and A, while 25 teams are ranked in Class B, 20 in Class C and 10 in Class D.
Honorable Mentions include: Fairport (3-0) and Hilton (2-1) in Class AA; East (2-0), Greece Arcadia (3-0), Greece Athena (2-1), and Webster Thomas (2-1) in Class A; UPrep (3-0) and Geneva (2-1) in Class B; Letchworth/Warsaw (2-1) and Wayland-Cohocton (2-1) in Class C; Geneseo (2-1) and Notre Dame (3-0) in Class D.
