Nick Ianiello (Penfield) and Ryan Coughlin (Greece Athena) connected on back-to-back RBI sacrifice flies in the second inning as DI Red (6-1-2) took a lead it did not surrender and won its fourth straight game. Nolan Hicks (Fairport) scored on Ianiello’s sacrifice, and Will Van Fleet III came home on Coughlin’s helper for a 3-2 Red advantage.

Christian Blatter (McQuaid) pitched two innings for his first win of the season. John Gassler (Pittsford Sutherland/New York University), Chris Sleeper (Rush-Henrietta) and Josh Ferris (Churchville-Chili) hurled a scoreless inning apiece in relief. Dylan Mackenzie (Canandaigua) tossed two scoreless frames in the win. Dan Tirabassi (Rush-Henrietta) made it a 4-2 game in the third with a leadoff inside-the-park home run. Ferris added an RBI single in the sixth. CJ Wiest (Brockport) made it a 1-1 game with an RBI sacrifice fly in the first inning. Jacob Thomas (Home School) and Cullen Pease (Irondequoit) had two hits apiece for Grey. Pease drove in a run. Thomas scored once. Tim McClare (Gananda/Canisius College) gave Grey an early 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first.

DI Red will play DI Orange in the UBL semifinals. An 8 PM first pitch is scheduled Thursday. Grey will take on first place DI Gold at 5:45 PM.

Andrew Wallman (Fairport) and Jacob Canfield (Webster Thomas) connected on two-run hits in the first inning and DI Gold (8-0-1) capped an undefeated regular season. Wallman plated Nick Vogt (Webster Schroeder) and Joe Thompson (Webster Schroeder) with a two-out single to center. One batter later, Canfield doubled down the left field line to score Wallman and Nate Sherman (Medina) in Upstate Baseball League action at Basket Road Field, Tuesday night. Sherman and Vogt finished 2-for-3 apiece. Vogt scored twice. Sherman crossed home once and drove in a run.

Tanner Frank (Brighton) started and picked up the win. The right-hander fanned two in a scoreless first. He was the first of seven hurlers to throw for Gold with Jack Willard (Webster Schroeder), Canfield, Vogt and Alex Vogt (Webster Schroeder) tossing a shutout stanza apiece. Wallman scored three runs in the game. Logan Bush (Aquinas) doubled in a pair of runs for DI Green and walked once. Zach Geist (Greece Athena) finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Gold will face DI Grey in Thursday’s semifinal. A 5:45 PM first pitch is scheduled at Basket Road Field.
