Previewing American Legion District 7 playoffs

American Legion District 7 playoffs commence Sunday. There will be four teams playing for one spot in the state tournament. The games begin with best-of-three, semifinal series. Then the championship series to send one team to states is best-of-three, as well. The postseason gets underway with two doubleheaders at Eastridge High School on Sunday at 9:00 a.m., with the one-seed versus four-seed matchup kicking off the proceedings.

Here are previews of the four teams in the playoffs.

 

1. Rayson Miller (18-3)

 

High schools represented: Rush-Henrietta, Caledona-Mumford, Pittsford Mendon, Avon, McQuaid, Aquinas, Honeoye Falls-Lima, Gananda

First-round opponent, previous meetings: Four-seed Greece Post; Rayson Miller won all three meetings: 10-5, 13-0, 10-2

Top hitters: 

Jason Bocklage (.411 batting average, 10 doubles, two triples, one HR, 10 steals)

Lukas Haefner (.397 batting average, 13 steals)

Owen VanNewkirk (.377 batting average, .592 on-base percentage)

Colin Smith (.344 batting average, 13 RBI, seven steals)

Maxx Countryman (.312 batting average, two HR, 15 RBI)

Top pitchers:

Lukas Haefner (0.91 ERA, 41 K)

2. Irondequoit Post (16-5)

First round opponent, previous meetings: James Cooke, went 2-1: Won 6-5, won 9-5, lost 2-0

Top hitters:

Caleb Delly (.400 batting average, five doubles, five steals)

Will Porter (.333 batting average, five steals)

Antonio Quinones (.300 batting average, 11 steals)

Shawn Brooks (.297 batting average, 15 steals)

3. James Cooke (14-7)

First round opponent, previous meetings: Irondequoit Post; went 1-2: Won 2-0, lost 6-5, lost 9-5
