Section V Roundup: Schafer paces Victor; Fairport pounds out 14 hits

Fairport 11 Highland Regional (NJ) 2
Jake Shuler allowed two runs on one hit over five and two-thirds as Fairport blew out the New Jersey team in Myrtle Beach. The senior right-hander fanned four, and Fairport improved to 2-1 on the season. Omar Rosa and Tyler Smith connected on back-to-back two-out RBI triples in a four-run Fairport fourth. Smith finished 2-for-3 on the day with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Rosa, who had a walk-off home run earlier in the week, was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a stolen base. Mike Sabatine went 2-for-4 including a double to go with two RBI and two runs scored. Aaron Jenks also doubled and had two hits in three at bats while scoring once. Tyler Holmes went 1-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Ricky Lipinski was 2-for-3 with a run scored. The Red Raiders pounded out 14 hits. Drew Treviso struck out two and retired all four batters he faced in relief. The game was played at the Cal Ripken Experience.

Victor 14 Niles McKinley (OH) 4
Drew Delaney struck out five over five innings to get the win for Victor (1-1). Louie Schafer was 2-for-3 with five RBI. The game was played at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Oldham County (KY) 7 Pittsford Mendon 5
The Vikings’ comeback from five runs down in the seventh inning fell short after Jared Petrichick, Hudson Bockmier and Jake Ring  drove in a run apiece. Ring led Mendon (2-1) going 2-for-3 at the plate. Petrichick took the loss, going two and a third innings and allowing five runs on three hits. George Gines singled and scored for the Vikings. Billy Dalton walked and scored. Cam Yonda drove in a run.

Gateway Regional 7 Penfield 2
Jake Scoma doubled in a run and scored in the seventh for Penfield. Connor Stuewe singled and scored. Ben Harrison, Tim Nichols and Gage Ziehl had a hit apiece for the Patriots (1-1).

Monticello (VA) 2 Pittsford Sutherland 1
Monticello scored twice in the first inning while Sutherland (2-2) failed to answer until the fifth on a Connor Fitzsimmons sacrifice fly. Graham Schild pitched five innings, allowed both runs (one earned) and struck out six. Keeghan Cummings and John Gassler came in relief to complete the sixth inning.

Rock Hill (SC) 11 Brockport 1
Samuel Velletri, Cole Penders, Noah Shultz, Nicholas Nealon, Troy Leibert, Dominic Passafiume and Gorrdon Fisher all had one hit apiece for the Blue Devils.

Paul Laurence Dunbar (KY) 10 McQuaid Jesuit 4
Mike Cairns finished 3-for-3 including a double with an RBI to lead McQuaid which dropped its first game of the season. Tyler Griggs was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Ben Beauchamp collected two hits including a double in four at-bats with a run scored and an RBI. Kevin Sheppard started and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits over four innings of work. Sheppard struck out three and walked none for McQuaid (4-1).
