Stenglein, Peebles and Burgio earn D3hoops All-Region honors

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Nazareth basketball standouts Jake Burgio (Brockport)Samantha Peebles and Tyler Stenglein (Irondequoit) represented the Golden Flyers Tuesday as member of the East Region all-star teams for 2017-18.

Peebles was a first-team selection in women’s basketball, while Burgio and Stenglein were third- and first-team selections respectively in men’s basketball.

Peebles, a 5-foot-7 senior from Syracuse, N.Y., was the Empire 8 Conference co-Player of the Year for 2017-18 after leading the league in scoring at 18.2 points per game. She also averaged 5.7 rebounds per game and made 49 three-point baskets. She also shot 78.4 percent from the foul line (138-for-176). She finished her career among the program’s all-time scoring leaders with 1,085 points.

Burgio, a 6-foot-4 junior from Brockport, N.Y., helped the Golden Flyers to a 20-8 overall record and the championship of the Empire 8 Conference. He finished second on the team in scoring at 16.1 points per game and led the team in rebounding at 8.8 rebounds per game. He was a first-team E8 Conference all-star and was a member of the Empire 8 all-tournament team after scoring 47 points in close wins over Alfred and Utica.

Stenglein, a 6-foot-3 junior from Rochester, was the E8 Conference Player of the Year and the MVP of the conference tournament after leading the team in scoring at 19.1 points per game and 4.0 assists per game. He scored in double figures 23 times as Nazareth finished 20-8 overall.
