It was a day of milestones for the MCC women’s basketball team on Saturday, as the Lady Tribunes shot their way to a 115-69 victory over Erie Community College in a WNYAC tilt.
Head coach Tim Parrinello earned his 600th career victory as Monroe (10-0, 20-1) knocked down 20 3-pointers against the Kats to push its winning streak to 18. The four-time NJCAA national champion coach achieved the feat in just his 22nd year.
In addition, sophomores Lanay Rodney and Sierra Green reached a pair of memorable accomplishments themselves. Rodney poured in a game-high 29 points to go over 1,000 for her career. Green knocked down eight 3’s to give her 187 for her career, setting a new Tribune mark from long distance.
Monroe led by five after the first quarter before exploding in the second and third to take command. The 3 was the key, as MCC poured in the points from deep. Green started slowly but rattled off six consecutive shots from beyond the arc as the Tribunes outscored the Kats 71-23 in the middle two stanzas.
When not knocking down 3’s, the Tribunes controlled the inside through Jaynelle Robinson. The sophomore center finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds on the day.
Green totaled 26 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists. Cash chipped in with 16, while Henderson had 10. Hines dished out seven assists and had three steals.
