CINCINNATI – The Los Angeles Athletic Club announced tonight that Xavier University senior guard Trevon Bluiett has been named on the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy’s® Late Season Top 20 list. Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 20 student-athletes who are currently the front-runners for the prestigious John R. Wooden Award and All-America Team.

Bluiett leads No. 5 Xavier and is sixth in the BIG EAST Conference in scoring at 19.2 ppg., while also leading the team in rebounding at 5.6 rpg., which ranks 16th in the BIG EAST. Bluiett, who is third in the BIG EAST in 3-point field goals per game at 3.0, has an active streak of 35 straight games scoring in double figures. Bluiett has scored 20 or more points in 13 games this season, including 31 points vs. Georgetown on Saturday. He has moved up to third place on XU’s all-time scoring list with 2,045 career points.

Bluiett has earned plenty of honors this season. Bluiett was named recently to the midseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, which is the United States Basketball Writers Association award for college basketball’s national player of the year. Xavier graduate David West won that award in 2003. This was the latest in a list of midseason awards for Bluiett, who was named midseason Second Team All-American by NBC Sports and Sporting News. Bluiett is also on the watch list for the Naismith Trophy, the Julius Erving Award, the Lute Olson Award and the Senior CLASS Award.

The National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award will be announced in early March and will consist of 15 top players. Voting begins at the end of the season, and voters, consisting of 1,000 members of the national college basketball media, will take into account the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
