Xavier’s J.P. Macura Earns Big East Conference Player of the Week

CINCINNATI —- Xavier University senior guard J.P. Macura has been named BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week. Macura averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in Xavier wins over St. John’s on Jan. 17 and at Seton Hall on Jan. 20.

Macura shot 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the field, including 60 percent (6-of-10) from 3-point territory, for the two games. Macura scored a season-high 27 points and came up with numerous big plays at both ends of the court in the win at Seton Hall. His 27-point effort is just one point shy of his career high.

Macura, who is second on the team and 20th in the BIG EAST in scoring at 13.4 ppg., is 24th on XU’s all-time scoring list with 1,321 career points.

No. 11 Xavier, 18-3 overall and 6-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, is coming off its third straight win, a 73-64 victory at No. 19 Seton Hall on Saturday.  XU hosts Marquette on  Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
