CHICAGO CUBS 1
LOS ANGELES DODGERS 4
LOS ANGELES, CA– Justin Turner drove in all four runs for the Dodgers, including three on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Rich Hill allowed one run on three hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in five innings for the Dodgers. Brandon Morrow, Josh Fields, Tony Watson and Kenley Jansen held the Cubs hitless and scoreless over the final four innings, striking out four.
Yasiel Puig drew a walk on four straight pitches to lead the bottom of the ninth, but the Cubs were able to get two outs while Puig reached second. Chris Taylor then came up to bat and worked a full count, laying off a fastball out of the strike zone to walk, putting runners on first and second. Turner stepped to the plate next and wasted little time jumping on the pitch he wanted, smacking the second pitch of the at bat to center field for the three-run walk-off home run.
Turner has now hit a home run in each of the last four playoff series in which he has played. His home run came 29 years to the day when Kirk Gibson hit his famous walk-off home run to win game one of the 1988 World Series, giving the Dodgers a 5-4 win over the Oakland A’s.
Jansen earned his first win, and decision, of his postseason career. It was his 22nd career playoff appearance.
Addison Russell hit a solo home run for the Cubs, his first of the 2017 postseason.
The Cubs and Dodgers will return on Tuesday in Chicago for game three.
