First, a note about Saturday night:

The early Pick 5 (starting in race 1) at Batavia Downs will have a guaranteed pool of $6,000. To win, you must pick the winners of races 1-5 on the ticket you purchase before race 1.

There’s a $3,281 carryover, so there’s little doubt the pool will climb past $6,000. The pick 5 hasn’t been hit since last Sunday.

On to the Aug. 6 Spot Play Hot Plays:

Race 3

No. 2 Candlelight Dinner (9-5 morning line): Simply put, take the short price to start your Pick 4. Second time in the Tracy Brainard barn, second time lasix and first time Jim Morrill Jr. Coming out of a blazing mile at Yonkers on July 28.

Race 5

No. 1 Santana Beach (7-2 morning line): Picks up Jody Jamieson, one of the best in Canada, and draws the rail. The hands alone will move him up.

Race 9

No. 1 Ain’t No Stoppin’ (3-1 morning line): Drops from higher-level claimers into a non-winners condition and when Jim McNeight Jr. has the rail, his record of 1-2 finishes is remarkable.
