LITTLE FALLS, N.Y.- Everything seemed poised for the Glens Fall Dragons to finally earn the team’s first road win of the season. Saturday was the one-year anniversary of the Dragons last road win.
The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs did not let Glens Falls play the role of spoiler; however, as they pitched a shutout to win 3-0 at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action.
Tyler Ksiazek (Monmouth) made his best start of the season throwing six frames of four-hit ball. He improved to 4-1 on the season and struck out five batters.
When asked about his start, Ksiazek immediately gave the credit to his teammates.
“The offense gave me some runs to work with, and the defense had my back,” Ksiazek said.
Jonathan Sell (Herkimer C.C.) pitched three innings of perfect baseball to earn the save. He has struck out nine batters and only allowed one hit over his last five innings pitched.
“He’s been attacking hitters, keeping the ball low and throwing strikes,” Dawgs coach Blake Nation said. “Opposing batters have to respect his slider.”
Connor Romero (Rhode Island) fell to 0-3 on the season. The left-handed freshman struggled with his command walking seven batters in six innings while allowing three runs.
A 2-for-3 night from Austin Pollack (Hofstra) contributed to his hot streak. The outfielder has gone 8-for-16 over his last five games. On Saturday he drove in a run, scored a run and walked.
Glens Falls (16-32) has one last chance to avoid going 0-26 on the road this season. They travel to Saugerties to face the Stallions (20-27) Sunday night.
With the win, the Diamond Dawgs (28-16) remained one game behind the Albany Dutchmen (30-16) for second place in the Eastern Divison. Mohawk Valley will take to the road against the Utica Blue Sox (18-29) on Sunday. They have a doubleheader with the Dutchmen on Monday to end the regular season.
