SYRACUSE — Britton Lawrence went 2-for-4 including a run-scoring double in the second as the Spartans advanced to the NYCBL Championship series with a win in the decisive game of the best-of-three Eastern Division Championship series. Stuart Martin went six innings allowing two runs on six hits with one strikeout. The right-hander picked up his first win of the postseason. Alexander Ferlenda and Brandon Cornelius each finished with two hits apiece for the Salt Cats.
The Spartans, in their first year of existence, advanced to meet the Hornell Dodgers for the league crown. Keaton Conner allowed two runs on three hits over eight innings as the Dodgers advanced with a 6-3 victory over Genesee Thursday night in the decisive game of the Western Division Championship series. The right-hander set down nine on strikes in the win. Jared Kapturasky struck out two and allowed one unearned run in the ninth to pick up the save. Sam Mang finished with two hits including a single in the eighth that plated Chris Cerniglia. Andrew Schutt finished with two hits for the Rapids.
Hornell is the oldest franchise in NYCBL history having been in existence since 1994. The Dodgers have won six league post-season titles. They will be looking for their first since 2014.
