Rome sweeps Cortland, Cats claw into first and can anyone stop Hornell?

SHERRILL — Matthew Nerz went 2-for-4 including a run-scoring single in the fourth as the Salt Cats took over first place in the Eastern Division. Fausto Lopez finished with three hits including a single in the third that plated Nerz. Lopez added a run-scoring single in the sixth, and the Salt Cats tacked on six runs. Reliever James Coyne tossed two innings allowing no runs on two hits. The right-hander fanned three and picked up his first win of the season.

Cortland Crush (20-18) 0
Rome Generals (20-17) 4
ROME — Jameson Carey pitched seven scoreless innings allowing three hits as the Generals won for the six th time in their last eight games. The right-hander set down two on strikes and picked up his second win of the season. Devin Springfield singled in the sixth plating one, Evan Delaney recorded a RBI on a fielders choice as the Generals added tacked on two runs.

Rome Generals (20-17) 4
Cortland Crush (20-18) 3
CORTLAND — Markus Melendez went 2-for-3 including a single in the second that plated Evan Delaney as the Generals took their sixth straight against the Crush. Jameson Carey recorded a sacrifice fly in the seventh to score Christian Aybar for the game winner. Reliever Martin Tolson Jr tossed two scoreless innings allowing one hit. The right-hander set down three on strikes and picked up the win.

Syracuse Spartans (21-17) 1
Sherrill Silversmiths (19-20) 3
SHERRILL — Efstathios Keskinidis pitched seven innings allowing one run on three hits as the Silversmiths knocked the Spartans out of first place in the NYCBL’s Eastern Division. The right-hander fanned seven and picked up his second win of the season. Jake Coro finished with two hits including a solo home run in the fifth. Nicholas Wydler hit a two-run home run in the fifth. Joseph Westerman went six innings allowing three runs on five hits. The right-hander finished with four strikeouts.

Wellsville Nitros (16-22) 6
Hornell Dodgers (29-9) 12
HORNELL — Max Werner went 2-for-4 including a double in the eighth that plated two as the Dodgers won their sixth straight. Sam Mang finished with two hits including a two-run-scoring single in the third. Keaton Connor tossed five scoreless innings allowing five hits. The right-hander fanned four and picked up his sixth win of the season.
