NYCBL Roundup: Brett homers twice in win over Ridgemen; Schmidt gets hot in Cortland victory and Oilers snap five-game losing streak

Syracuse Salt Cats (5-7) 1
Sherrill Silversmiths (7-3) 3
SHERRILL — Alex Gomes pitched six innings and let up one run on two hits with three strikeouts as the Silversmiths won back-to-back games against the Salt Cats. Brett Sandford relieved for two innings as he retired all six batters he faced. Tyler Hertzwig managed to get three outs in the ninth to pick up his fourth save of the season. Justin Stromski got the Silversmiths offense going in the fifth with a two-run home run as the Silversmiths led 2-0. Stromski finished going 1-for-3.

Syracuse Spartans (6-5) 4
Cortland Crush (6-4) 10
CORTLAND — Joseph Rodgers, Tyler Schmidt, and Charles Edwards combined for eight RBI on nine hits as the Crush have won their fourth straight game at home. Schmidt got the Crush’s offense going in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run to put them up by two. He also drove in another run in the same inning by hitting a two-out double to score Rodgers. The Crush’s offense was able to score eight runs in the first inning.

Genesee Rapids (5-8) 9
Olean Oilers (3-9) 11
OLEAN — Jacob Burlingame and Mike Magnanti went 2-for-3 with two RBI apiece as the Oilers snap a five-game losing streak. Burlingame blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the second and Magnanti jump-started the offense in the fourth with a RBI double to score Austin Braendal. Allen Murphy finished with three hits.

Rochester Ridgemen (3-7) 7
Hornell Dodgers (9-3) 17
HORNELL — Connor Bailey, Jack Brett, Colin Johnson, and Andrew McCoy combined for ten RBI on eight hits as the Dodgers have won their third straight game. Brett’s two hits were both homers as he had one in the fourth and one in the sixth. The Dodgers at one point tallied up seven in the fifth as six batters drove in at least a run. Lucas Cornell went five innings surrendering two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
