OAKLAND – Kevin Durant exploded for 39 points, seven rebounds and five assists to help the Warriors defeat the Cavaliers 4-1 in the series and secure their second NBA championship in two years. Durant, who picked up Finals MVP, averaged 35.2 PPG, 8.4 RPG and 5.4 APG in this year’s finals. Stephen Curry poured in 34 points and dished out 10 assists. Andre Iguodala, the 2015 finals MVP, added 20 points off the bench.
Golden State, which finished an NBA playoff best 16-1, used a 28-4 run in the second quarter to give the Dubs separation as Cleveland never led in the second half.
LeBron James did all he could for the Cavs and put up 41 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. James averaged a triple-double for the series – 33.6 PPG, 12.0 RPG and 10.0 APG. Kyrie Irving and J.R. Smith dropped 26 and 25 points, respectively. Tristan Thompson had 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Golden State Warriors take home the trophy a year after they finished an NBA-record 73-9 in the regular season en route to blowing a 3-1 lead to these Cleveland Cavaliers.
