NYCBL Roundup: Young hits walk-off; strong outing by Sandford and Allen and Salt Cats bullpen does its job

SYRACUSE — Craig Sandford went 2-for-4 with two singles, and Tully Allen went 2-for-5 including a triple and an RBI as the Silversmiths start their season off with a road win.

Hornell Dodgers (1-0) 10
Wellsville Nitros (0-1) 9
HORNELL — Michael Young went 2-for-5 including a walk-off single. Connor Bailey and Chris Cerniglia collected three hits apiece to pace a 16-hit Hornell attack. Jared Kapturasky drove in three runs with a single and a sacrifice fly. Shaye Bartnick (Brockport) singled and scored a run.

Syracuse Salt Cats (1-0)
Rome Generals (0-1)
SYRACUSE — Vincent Amato and four relievers combined to allow two runs (0 earned) on six hits.  Amato struck out one and walked one over five scoreless innings. Tim Gorton went 3-for-5 with three singles.
