NYCBL Roundup: Mang and Hornell have lift off; Coro has a night, and Valentin sparks Crush, and Mang goes

SHERRILL — Jake Coro went 3-for-5 with an RBI double in the second inning as the Silversmiths scored six runs in the first two innings of play. Michael Wroth hit a two-out single to break a tie in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Cortland Crush (1-0) 6
Genessee Rapids (0-1) 0
CORTLAND — Armando Valentin went 2-for-3 including two doubles and three RBI. Valentin and five other players recorded two hits apiece. Will Ginsberg retired the first six batters as he struck out four batters and allowed just three hits in six strong innings.

Rome Generals (1-1) 2
Rochester Ridgemen (0-1) 0
ROME — Matthew Russell allowed three hits and struck out seven batters as the Generals got their first win of the season. Devin Springfield went 2-for-3 with a triple and a double. Springfield also scored one of the runs on a Jameson Carey base hit.

Hornell Dodgers (2-0) 7
Olean Oilers (0-1) 4
OLEAN — Sam Mang went 2-for-3 including a 3-run home run on a 1-2 pitch to widen the gap to a two-run deficit. Jared Kapturasky went 2-for-5 including a two-run shot to score the first runs of the game. Kapturasky also closed the game as he threw for three innings. He struck out two batters without allowing a run.
