NBA Roundup: Kyrie explodes for 46, Pelicans sweep Wolves, Lillard makes franchise history

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS 125 LOS ANGELES LAKERS 120

LOS ANGELES – Kyrie Irving exploded for 46 points to help lead the Cavs (46-23) to the victory. LeBron James added 34 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Kevin Love chipped in with 21 points and 15 rebounds.

Los Angeles was up by as many as 11 in the fourth quarter, but Richard Jefferson had a personal 6-0 run to bring Cleveland back within five, and then Irving, known for his clutch fourth quarter play, took over and drilled a 3-pointer with 4:09 left to help give the Cavaliers the lead for good.

D’Angelo Russell dropped a career-high 40 points on 14-of-22 shooting for the Lakers (20-50).

NEW ORLEANS PELICANS 123 MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES 109

NEW ORLEANS – Anthony Davis netted 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Pelicans (29-41) to the sweep over Minnesota. DeMarcus Cousins added 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Jrue Holiday contributed 21 points and seven assists. Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins scored 33 and 25 points, respectively, for the Wolves (28-41).

PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 115 MIAMI HEAT 104

MIAMI – Damian Lillard went off for 49 points including a career-high nine 3-pointers to help lead the Blazers (32-27). Lillard became the only Trail Blazer to make 1,000 career 3-pointers, and the second player to ever drain 1,000 treys in his first five seasons. C.J. McCollum (Lehigh) added 18 points. Jusuf Nurkic provided 21 points and 12 rebounds. James Johnson had 24 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Heat (34-36).

DALLAS MAVERICKS 111 BROOKLYN NETS 104

BROOKLYN – Dirk Nowitzki paced the Mavs (30-39) with 23 points and nine rebounds. J.J. Barea scored 20 and handed out seven assists. Harrison Barnes added 19 points. Brook Lopez had 27 points and seven rebounds for the Nets (13-56).

PHILADELPHIA 76ers 105 BOSTON CELTICS 99

PHILADELPHIA – Dario Saric compiled 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Sixers (26-43). Al Horford scored 27 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out six assists for the Celtics (44-26).

DETROIT PISTONS 112 PHOENIX SUNS 95

AUBURN HILLS – Kentavious Caldwell-Pope carried the Pistons (34-36) with 23 points and eight assists. Andre Drummond added 18 points and 18 rebounds. Tyler Ulis had 17 points and 11 assists for the Suns (22-48).

TORONTO RAPTORS 116 INDIANA PACERS 91

TORONTO – DeMar DeRozan led the Raptors (41-29) with 22 points. Jonas Valanciunas added 11 points and 13 rebounds. Paul George scored 18 points for the Pacers (35-34).

SAN ANTONIO SPURS 118 SACRAMENTO KINGS 102

SAN ANTONIO – Pau Gasol put up 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help the Spurs (53-16) stop a two-game skid. Tony Parker added 16 points and seven assists. LaMarcus Aldridge contributed 18 points and eight rebounds. Willie Cauley-Stein and Buddy Hield scored 18 apiece for the Kings (27-43).
