The Olean Oilers announced Saturday that WGWE 105.9 FM, a Seneca Nation Broadcasting Station based in Salamanca, N.Y. will broadcast 39 games of the Olean Oilers 42-game regular season in 2017. WGWE 105.9 FM has also agreed to carrying the NYCBL all-star game festivities, which will be hosted at Bradner Stadium on July 13th. The only regular-season road game that will not be able to be heard on WGWE 105.9 FM is the June 19th contest at Rochester.
“The Olean Oilers have always received great support from our local fans so it made sense for our organization to partner with a local broadcasting station to enhance our fan experience and broaden our fan appeal. I welcome WGWE to the Oiler family and believe our partnership will continue to grow our organization and offer our fans to be part of some of the best summer entertainment in the area,” said Olean Oilers Owner Brian O’Connell, Jr.
“We really think this is a big step forward for us and a great way to continue to expand our brand. Partnering with WGWE 105.9 FM will allow our fans to not only follow the Oilers when we are home but also now on the road – which was something that we were lacking in the past,” said Olean Oilers Director of Operations Matthew Fidurko.
Along with having an on-air radio presence, WGWE 105.9 FM offers online streaming of their broadcasts on their website, www.WGWEfm.com.
“WGWE 105.9 FM has a great stretch over the Southern Tier and Northern Pennsylvania, however, we also recognize that the hills interfere with their signal to the east. This is where their online streaming is going to come in, not just for local Oilers fans but for fans around the country,” added Fidurko.
Chris Russell, WGWE 105.9 FM Morning Host and voice of the St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team, will assume the play-by-play duties. “I can’t tell you how excited I am to bring Oilers play-by-play to not only the WGWE audience but all over the state and country online. To be able to follow the two-time defending NYCBL champions is a great honor,” said Russell.
