No. 4 Gonzaga 77 Santa Clara 68
LAS VEGAS, NV– Nigel Williams-Goss dropped a team-high 25 points to help the Bulldogs (31-1) become the nation’s first 31-win team this season. Przemek Kanowski led a dominant inside attack with seven rebounds.
For the Broncos (17-16), the game did not go as they had planned though. While Jared Brownridge scored 32 points, the absence of the second leading scorer was too much to overcome. Foul trouble proved to be costly for the team as well as two of their starters each had four fouls just minutes after the second half began.
With the win, Gonzaga continued their fifteen game winning streak against Santa Clara. They also advanced to their 20th straight West Coast Conference title game and are seeking their fifth straight conference championship tonight.
No. 19 Saint Mary’s 81 BYU 50
LAS VEGAS, NV– Jock Landale (22 points, 10 rebounds) and Emmett Naar (12 points, 11 rebounds) both posted double-doubles for Saint Mary’s (28-3) in a blowout victory. However, the rest of the Gaels were not to be forgotten as the team nailed 13 3-pointers and finished 56 percent from the field.
Hungry for a third shot to play against rival Gonzaga this season, Saint Mary’s held BYU (22-11) to a 31 percent from the field in the first half. From there, they took the lead and never gave it up as they led by as many as 35 points.
In an attempt to win their first WCC title since 2012, the Gaels will face the Gonzaga Bulldogs Tuesday night. As for the BYU Cougars, they will have to wait for Selection Sunday to see if their 12-year postseason streak will continue.
