Rundown of Sunday’s NBA action.
ATLANTA HAWKS 142 NEW YORK KNICKS 139 (4OT)
ATLANTA – Paul Millsap dropped 37 points including the eventual game-winner to go along with 19 rebounds and seven assists for the Hawks (28-20). Millsap may be looking at a good night’s sleep, as he played 60 minutes worth of basketball, which ties a franchise record set in 1982.
Dennis Schroder, who forced the fourth overtime with a driving layup, scored 23 points and handed out 15 assists. Kent Bazemore added 24 points and nine rebounds. Dwight Howard posted a double-double – 19 points and 13 rebounds. Former Knick Tim Hardaway Jr. had 19 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Mike Muscala (Bucknell) chipped in with two points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
Carmelo Anthony put the trade rumors in his back pocket and went off for 45 points on 18-of-36 shooting, but it proved to not be enough for the Knicks (21-28). Melo put in the game-tying shots to force overtime and double-overtime, but fouled out with 12.9 seconds left in the second overtime. Starters Joakim Noah and Kristaps Porzingis also fouled out. Brandon Jennings stepped in for the injured Derrick Rose (ankle) and capitalized with 18 points and 11 assists. Courtney Lee, who drained a 3-pointer to force a third overtime, finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. Porzingis and former Hawk Justin Holiday added 15 points apiece. Noah compiled six points, 14 rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.
CLEVELAND CAVALIERS 107 OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER 91
CLEVELAND – LeBron James led the Cavs (32-14) with 25 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. Kyrie Irving added 29 points and 10 assists. Tristan Thompson had 19 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Russell Westbrook tallied another triple-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for the Thunder (28-20).
INDIANA PACERS 120 HOUSTON ROCKETS 101
INDIANAPOLIS – Paul George netted 33 points and nine rebounds for the Pacers (25-22). Jeff Teague scored 17 points and dished out 15 assists, Myles Turner added 18 points and 10 rebounds. James Harden has seen better days, as he only managed 15 points on 3-of-17 shooting to go along with eight assists on eight turnovers for the Rockets (35-16). Ryan Anderson dropped 27 points.
WASHINGTON WIZARDS 107 NEW ORLEANS PELICANS 94
NEW ORLEANS – John Wall paced the Wizards (27-20) with 18 points and 19 assists. Bradley Beal added 27 points on an efficient 11-of-16 from the field. Markieff Morris scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Marcin Gortat netted a double-double – 17 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Davis had 36 points and 17 rebounds for the Pelicans (19-29). Jrue Holiday chipped in with 26 points and 11 assists.
ORLANDO MAGIC 114 TORONTO RAPTORS 113
TORONTO – Nikola Vucevic compiled 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Magic (19-30). Kyle Lowry had 33 points and eight assists for the Raptors (29-19), who have dropped six of their last seven games.
CHICAGO BULLS 121 PHILADELPHIA 76ers 108
CHICAGO – Jimmy Butler provided 28 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals to lead the Bulls (24-25). Robin Lopez added 21 points and 10 rebounds. Ersan Ilyasova had 31 points and 11 rebounds for the Sixers (17-29).
DALLAS MAVERICKS 105 SAN ANTONIO SPURS 101
SAN ANTONIO – Seth Curry went off for a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Mavs (17-30) to the upset victory. Harrison Barnes and Dirk Nowitzki had 19 and 15 points, respectively. Nowitzki also grabbed 10 rebounds. Kawhi Leonard scored 24 points and secured seven rebounds for the Spurs (36-11).
GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS 113 PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 111
PORTLAND – Kevin Durant‘s 33 points, 10 rebounds and six assists led the Warriors (41-7). Klay Thompson added 27 points. C.J. McCollum (Lehigh) had 28 points and seven rebounds for the Blazers (21-28). Damian Lillard chipped in with 19 points and eight assists.
