McConnell nails buzzer-beater; Sixers top Knicks

PHILADELPHIA 76ers 98 NEW YORK KNICKS 97

PHILADELPHIA – T.J. McConnell hit a turnaround jumper at the buzzer to give the red-hot Sixers (11-25) their fourth win in five games. New York, who led by as many as 17 points, had a 93-83 advantage with 2:29 left in the game, but Joel Embiid sparked a 15-3 run with eight points to help Philadelphia get the come-from-behind victory.

Embiid finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds. McConnell had eight points, seven assists and six boards.

Derrick Rose dropped 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting a game after missing the Knicks’ (17-22) last contest. Rose was a no-show for Monday’s affair at MSG due to what he described as family reasons. Carmelo Anthony netted a game-high 28 points.

OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER 103 MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES 95

OKLAHOMA CITY – Russell Westbrook earned a triple-double (24 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists) for the Thunder (24-16) – his first such effort against the Grizzlies organization. Mike Conley had 22 points and six dimes for Memphis (24-17).

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES 119 HOUSTON ROCKETS 105

MINNEAPOLIS – Karl-Anthony Towns paced the Wolves (13-26) with 23 points and 18 rebounds. Andrew Wiggins added 28 points. James Harden scored 33 points and dished out 12 assists for the Rockets (31-10).

BOSTON CELTICS 117 WASHINGTON WIZARDS 108

BOSTON – Isaiah Thomas led the Celtics (24-15) with 38 points, six rebounds and five assists. Jae Crowder, who got into a postgame scuffle with Wizards’ star John Wall, added 20 points. Wall struggled, scoring just nine points on 4-of-21 shooting, but dished out 10 assists and grabbed seven rebounds. Bradley Beal had 35 points for the Wizards (19-19).

LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 105 ORLANDO MAGIC 96

LOS ANGELES – J.J. Redick had 22 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Clippers (27-14) against his former team. DeAndre Jordan was a beast on the glass grabbing 20 rebounds to go along with 10 points and three blocks. Aaron Gordon scored 28 points for the Magic (16-24).

PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 102 CLEVELAND CAVALIERS 86

PORTLAND – C.J. McCollum (Lehigh) dropped 27 points on 11-of-20 shooting to lead the Blazers (18-23) over the defending champs. The Canton, Ohio native has been scorching hot, averaging 29.8 points over his last five games. LeBron James had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Cavs (28-10).
