With two separate one-point leads within the last 15 seconds, freshman guard Shamorie Ponds made four straight free throws to keep St. John’s in the lead, securing the win. Ponds led St. John’s with 26 points and seven rebounds.
St. John’s shot 54 percent from the field for the game and Butler finished shooting 45.9 percent. St. John’s entered the game ranked 187th in the country, averaging 44 percent from the field per game, and Butler entered shooting 49.5 percent, ranked 19th in the nation.
The teams tied with 31 rebounds a piece, equal to Butler’s 329th ranked total and eight less than St. John’s 84th ranked total of 39.
Butler’s leading scorer was junior forward Tyler Wideman with 20 points and nine rebounds.
St. John’s improves to 6-7 and Butler drops to 11-2.

Gonzaga (13-0) junior guard Nigel Williams-Goss paced the team with 16 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists.
No. 8 KENTUCKY 99 OLE MISS 76
Freshman guard Malik Monk led Kentucky (11-2) with 34 points, but sophomore guard Isaiah Briscoe dropped 19 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds for the third triple-double in Kentucky history.
No. 19 SAINT MARY’S 72 LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 60
Junior center Jock Landale scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double for Saint Mary’s (11-1). Sophomore forward Trevor Manuel scored 18 points for Loyola Marymount (7-5).
No. 25 FLORIDA 81 ARKANSAS 72
Sophomore guard KeVaughn Allen led the Gators (10-3) with 21 points. Junior guard Daryl Macon (22 points), and senior forward Moses Kingsley (13 points, 14 rebounds) led Arkansas (11-2).

Freshman forward Anthony Lamb (Greece Athena) scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds for Vermont.
