No. 10 Creighton dominates Longwood in win

No. 10 CREIGHTON 113 LONGWOOD 58

Creighton’s leading performer was sophomore guard Khyri Thomas with 16 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Marcus Foster also picked up 16 points while senior guard Maurice Watson Jr. added a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Isaiah Walton paced Longwood with an 11 point, four rebound, four-assist and three-steal performance. The team’s leaders in points were junior forward Khris Lane and freshman forward JaShaun Smith with 12 points.

Creighton finished the game shooting 58.6 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from behind the three-point line. Longwood finished shooting 37.5 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three.

Creighton also picked up wins in the rebound (47-29), assist (27-13), steal (12-5) and block (7-2) categories.

After Longwood opened the scoring in the first half, Creighton went on a 17-4 run to take a 17-6 lead about five minutes into the game. They also finished the first half on a 12-0 run. Creighton more than doubled Longwood’s scoring in the first half, going to halftime up 62-25.

After the two teams traded baskets early in the second half, Creighton went on another run, this one an 11-0 run, to extend its lead. The teams then continued to trade baskets until the final horn sounded.

Longwood drops to 2-5, while Creighton breaks into double-digit wins at 10-0.
