No. 1 Nova holds on against La Salle

Rundown of Tuesday’s Top 25 action.

No. 1 VILLANOVA 89 LA SALLE 79

Villanova sophomore guard Jalen Brunson netted 26 points, but senior guard Josh Hart was the team’s top player with 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Pookie Powell led La Salle with 27 points in 31 minutes off the bench. Nova improves to 9-0, while La Salle falls to 4-3.

No. 3 KANSAS 105 UMKC 62

Kansas was led by 30 points from senior guard Frank Mason III, as well as a double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds) from freshman guard Josh Jackson. UMKC saw senior guard LaVell Boyd put up 17 points to lead the team. Kansas goes to 8-1 and UMKC is now 6-4.

No. 5 DUKE 84 No. 21 FLORIDA 74

Despite 29 points from sophomore guard Luke Kennard, graduate forward Amile Jefferson was Duke’s top performer with 24 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double. KeVaughn Allen, a sophomore guard for Florida, led his team with 21 points. Duke jumps to 9-1 and Florida falls 7-2.

No. 14 VIRGINIA 76 EAST CAROLINA 53

Senior London Perrantes topped Virginia with 12 points and five assists. Freshman guard Jeremy Shepard led East Carolina with 17 points in 21 minutes played. Virginia moves to 8-1 and East Carolina goes to 7-3.

No. 18 PURDUE 97 ARIZONA STATE 64

In a balanced scoring attack, junior center Isaac Haas was Purdue’s top player with 16 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Shannon Evans II paced Arizona State with 16 points, three rebounds and three assists. Purdue improves to 7-2 and Arizona State drops to 5-4.

No. 20 ARIZONA 79 UC IRVINE 57

Arizona’s best player was junior center Dusan Ristic with 18 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. UC Irvine got 12 points from senior guard Jaron Martin. Arizona goes to 7-2, while UC Irvine goes to 4-5 on the season.

No. 23 NOTRE DAME 87 FORT WAYNE 72

Though senior guard Steve Vasturia led with 21 points, junior forward Bonzie Colson was the top player for Notre Dame with a double-double (17 points and 14 rebounds). Senior guard Mo Evans led Fort Wayne with 25 points, and sophomore guard John Konchar added 18 points and nine rebounds. Notre Dame is now 9-0 and Fort Wayne is 7-3.

OTHER:

ST. BONAVENTURE 81 HOFSTRA 75

Graduate forward Chinoso Obokoh (Bishop Kearney) did not play due to injury.

PROVIDENCE 95 BROWN 57

Junior forward Emmitt Holt (Webster Schroeder) led Providence with 20 points, along with five rebounds and five assists.
