WELLSVILLE, N.Y. — It has been 347 days since the Olean Oilers lost back-to-back games on July 18 of last season. In that span, the city of Cleveland has snapped a 52-year title drought, *redacted* and *redacted* died on Game of Thrones and the world has come to realize that “Brexit” is not a fancy term for a British snack.
The Wellsville Nitros pitching staff limited the potent Olean offense to a mere three runs en route to a 4-3 victory Tuesday night at Wellsville Central Park in New York Collegiate Baseball League action.
Joshua Limes (Cowley County Community College) earned the win for the Nitros striking out seven Oilers in six-and-one-third innings pitched. He surrendered only five hits against a team averaging over seven runs per game.
Jacob Means (Cowley County Community College) hit the go-ahead home run in the bottom of the fourth to break a 1-1 tie and give Wellsville a lead they would never give up.
The Oilers attempted a comeback tallying runs in the seventh and eighth innings but could not push the tying run across.
Means, Jacob Sims (Roane State Community College) and Tyler Culpepper (Roane State Community College) combined to go 6-for-13 with a home run, three doubles, four RBI and two runs
Aaron Phillips (St. Bonaventure University) led Olean with a 2-for-4 performance including his fifth home run of the season.
Wellsville (10-15) travels to Rochester to face off with the Ridgemen (6-19).
The Oilers (25-3) return home on Thursday to host the Genesee Rapids (7-18).
