Crazy Eight
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies are riding an eight-game winning streak. The last time the program has had a streak this long came in 2011-12. That team went to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. SBU has not been back to the Tournament since.
The Bonnies captured their eight consecutive win at Colgate on Dec. 19. Points came at a premium, as the final score came to 62-38. The Bonnies shutout Colgate, 10-0, in the first period.
Nyla Rueter accounted for a good portion of the offense as she dished out her best performance of the season. Rueter led the game with 21 points, tying her season high. She shot 58 percent from the field, including a 5-for-9 clip from long range.
She hit her stride in the third period as she made all five of her three-pointers and scored 17 points in the frame.
Scouting Niagara
SBU will look to push it to nine straight against Big 4 rival Niagara.
The Bonnies are 35-23 all time against Niagara, and have come out victorious in the last eight match ups.
The Niagara Purple Eagles come into the Reilly Center with a record of 1-8. They’ve lost five consecutive games and hold a winless road record of 0-5.
As a team, they average 59.0 points per game and shoot 38.7 percent from the field.
Assistant Coach Jessica Jenkins is scouting Niagara.
“Niagara plays their high low game very well. They have dangerous forwards that make this tough to defend,” said Jenkins.
“They do a good job of controlling the game by switching their defenses and playing at their speed.
“Offensively, we need to run our offense and not be hesitant.
“Defensively, we need to force them to take tougher shots, not easy layups.”
