OLEAN, N.Y. – The Geneva Twins defeated the Olean Oilers, 5-2, in a New York Collegiate Baseball League game on July 17 at Bradner Stadium.
With the score knotted at two in the eighth inning, Andy Lalonde (Southern New Hampshire U) delivered the go-ahead RBI single to put Geneva up 3-2. The Twins added another in the inning when Kenny Reckart (Wooster) came home on a Luke Waldek (Minnesota St Community & Tech Col) single.
Geneva scored the first runs of the game the third inning, as Bob Barnett (Widener) came through with a two-out RBI single to put Geneva up 1-0.
After Geneva added another run in the fifth, Olean tied the score at two in the bottom of the sixth.
Mike Fahrman (Florida) drove home Dan Pellinen (Friends), and Fahrman later scored himself on a wild pitch.
But the two runs in the eighth and an insurance run in the ninth proved too much for Olean, as the final score of 5-2 held.
Luke Salerno (Castleton) went 6.1 innings for Geneva before handing the ball to his bullpen.
Alex Dickey threw 1.2 innings and struck out two and earned the win.
Kyle Monk (Emory) relieved Dickey and got the final three outs — one of the coming as a strikeout – and earned his 11th save of the season.
Up next, the Oilers will take on the Rochester Ridgemen at Bradner Stadium on Saturday, July 18. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM.
Geneva will head home and welcome the Hornell Dodgers at 5:00 PM at McDonough Park.
