SYRACUSE, N.Y. — After wreaking havoc on the New York Collegiate Baseball League Thursday night, Mother Nature decided to give the NYCBL a chance on Friday. With the sun shining throughout most of the state, the Oneonta Outlaws and Syracuse Jr. Chiefs met for a day-night doubleheader at Onondaga Community College.
The Outlaws used three-run outbursts in the first and fifth to take game one 6-3.
Taylor Maxey (Tennessee Tech) and Zach Blonder (Maryville College) reached base in the top of the first before Jordan “McClain” Bradley (Wofford) reached on an error to push across the game’s first run. On the next pitch, Trevor Putzig (Tennessee) ripped a two-run single to give Oneonta an early 3-0 lead.
The Outlaws strung together four-straight hits in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 6-0, highlighted by Tyler Bruno’s (Iona) two-run single and an RBI-double by Hayden Gerlach (Grand Canyon University).
The Jr. Chiefs refused to concede the game using a three-run inning of their own to strike nervousness back into the hearts of the Outlaws. Justin Healey (Widener) and Alex Perry (Salve Regina) both hit RBI-singles to highlight the five-hit frame.

With the score in game two tied at one entering the top of the fifth, Alexander Rojas (Eastern New Mexico University) hit a double before moving to third on a wild pitch. He scored two batters later when CJ Krowiak (Binghamton) knocking in the go-ahead run with an RBI-single.
Rojas stepped up to the plate in the sixth with runners on second and third and lined his second double of the night into the gap to give the Outlaws two insurance runs as they held on to win 4-1.
Luke Samson (Lake County JC) pitched a seven-inning complete-game the second game of the doubleheader. He allowed an unearned run while limiting Syracuse to just three hits. Samson lowered his ERA nearly three-quarters of a run from 3.22 to 2.45 after the performance.
