St. LOUIS – Saint Louis University head men’s basketball coach Jim Crews announced today that point guard Jermaine Bishop(Queens, N.Y./Holy Cross H.S.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play basketball for the Billikens.
Bishop begins his four years of eligibility next season. He joins 6-11 center Matt Neufeld (Victoria, British Columbia) and 6-9 forward Elliott Welmer (Columbus, Ind.) as incoming freshmen.
“We welcome Jermaine to Saint Louis University and the Billiken basketball family,” Crews said. “He is a high-character young man who comes from a great family and a terrific high school program featuring an outstanding coach in Terry Tarpey. Jermaine’s ball-handling and ability to score, as well as his basketball savvy and competitiveness, will be very positive additions to our program. He is going to be a great teammate.”
The 6-foot-1 Bishop averaged 20.6 points and 5.3 assists per game while helping Holy Cross to an appearance in the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) AA intersectional semifinals, the squad’s deepest run since 2012. He was named to the MSG Varsity 2015 All-New York City first team, which includes public and Catholic school players.
Bishop scored 15 points in the Mayor’s Cup, an all-star game that features players from New York City’s Public Schools Athletic League against the CHSAA. He will graduate from Holy Cross as the program’s third-leading varsity scorer with 1,375 career points.
