Former Canisius men’s basketball player Frank Turner has signed a professional contract to join U-Banca Transilvania of the Romanian National Basketball League. Now in his fifth year as a professional overseas, Turner most recently played for the Port of Antwerp Giants in the Belgian League.
In 42 games with Antwerp, Turner averaged 12.3 points, 4.3 assists, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. His 4.3 assists per game average ranked top-five in the league. He helped lead Antwerp to the league semifinals in 2013, and he also played 12 games in the 2014 EuroChallenge where he averaged 12.3 points, 4.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest. The Atlantic City, N.J., native has also played professionally for Fos Ouest (France), Trefl Sopot (Poland) and Den Bosch (Holland). In 41 career games with Den Bosch, Turner averaged 12.7 points per game and led the league in assists per game average with 4.6 per outing en route to being named to the Eurobasket.com All-Dutch Eredivsie Second Team and to the league’s All-Star game.
As a Griff, Turner played in a school-record 125 career games from 2006-10, where he made 117 starts. He ranks fourth in career scoring with 1,769 career points and his 616 career assists ranks first in program history. He was honored as an All-MAAC selection two times during his career and he was named the MAAC’s Co-Rookie of the Year following his freshman campaign in 2006-07.
