CINCINNATI – Xavier head women’s basketball coach Brian Neal has announced the signing of Tierra Floyd to a national letter of intent during the NCAA’s early signing period. Floyd is the lone signee as the Musketeers will only graduate one player.
“Xavier is the perfect fit for me academically and athletically,” said Floyd. “I’ve always liked the family atmosphere at Xavier and know that I’ll be getting a great education. I already have a strong connection with the coaching staff and team and can’t wait to get on campus this summer.”
The 6-foot-1 forward averaged 16.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as a junior at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio. She also added 2.9 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
“Signing a player like Tierra sets a cornerstone piece for our program,” said Neal. “In my opinion, she is the best player in Ohio because she affects the game in every way imaginable with her size and ability to play really every position on the floor.
“But personally, the thing I love most about Tierra is her basketball IQ and ability to make teammates more effective.”
Floyd, the 2014 Toledo Blade Player of the Year, led Notre Dame to three consecutive OHSAA Division I Final Four Appearances from 2012-14. As a junior, she was named to the all-state first team in addition to being tabbed the district player of the year.
Floyd ranks 16th by ESPN nationally at her position and 79th overall by the All-Star Girls Report. She also ranks as a four-star prospect by Prospects Nation while ranking 85th in the nation.
