Xavier women’s basketball announces non-conference schedule

CINCINNATI – Xavier women’s basketball has announced the 2014-15 non-conference schedule, a slate that features seven games at Cintas Center and four on the road. Xavier will open the program’s 44th season against Wofford on Saturday, Nov. 15. Highlighting the schedule is a home date against Virginia on Thursday, Nov. 20 and a showdown with crosstown rival Cincinnati on the road onSunday, Dec. 14.

The dates for the 18-game BIG EAST Conference slate will be announced at a later time. Xavier will play home-and-away series against all nine BIG EAST opponents: Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Villanova.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming season,” said head coach Brian Neal. “Last year helped us lay the foundation for success and we are ready to take the next step. Combining our returning student-athletes with fresh faces at every position has provided us with competition and depth. We are excited to see what the season holds.”

The Musketeers return eight players who saw the floor last season and welcome nine newcomers. Junior Jenna Crittendon (Union, Ky./Ryle HS) is Xavier’s top returning scorer (10.2 ppg), rebounder (6.9 rpg) and three-point threat (32 made triples; .308). Junior Aliyah Zantt led the team in steals (72, 2.3 spg) and figures to be a mainstay in the lineup this season.

Xavier women’s basketball season tickets can be purchased through GoXavier.com and at the Xavier Athletics Ticket Office at Cintas Center. Season tickets offer a 50% discount off the single-game rate and begin at just $80 for the whole season. The XU ticket office is open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. from Monday through Friday.
