SHERRILL, N.Y. — Ramon Osuna Sanchez (College of Charleston) went 3-5 with a single, double and a grand slam and five RBI as the Oneonta Outlaws beat the Sherrill Silversmiths 10-3 on Sunday evening in New York State Collegiate Baseball League action at Noyes Park.
Sanchez did his damage in the top of the seventh. After getting the first out, the next three batters reached base. Daniel Fickas (South Carolina Upstate) walked and Kody Ruedisili (Wofford College) scored. With the bases still loaded, Sanchez sent the ball over the fence for a grand slam and to put the game nearly out of reach for the Silversmiths. Ben Mauseth (Grand Canyon U) and Taylor Jones (North Georgia College and State U) scored on the play.
Sherrill got an early lead, scoring in the first inning. Bryan Baquer (Washington College) singled and tried to score on a single by Reid Neal (Florida Atlantic U), but was tagged out at home. Neal would later come to score for the first run of the game.
The lead was short-lived as Oneonta brought two home in the second. Sanchez started out the inning by reaching first on an error by the second basemen. Right after, Jimmy Hand (Northeastern U) singled. Later in the inning, Frank D’Agostino (Temple U) doubled home two.
Christian Triplett (North Carolina Central U) tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning on a solo shot to left center field.
“I was waiting for a good pitch to hit and I got it,” said Triplett.
Oneonta answered with a run in the third.

After the starting pitcher, Nate Westfahl (Ft. Scott CC) threw the ball away in an attempt to make an out at first; Jones was able to move up to second. Two batters later, he scored on a Sanchez single.
Jones wasn’t finished scoring in the game. In the top of the fifth, he crushed the first pitch of the at-bat into the trees beyond right field for a solo home run.
Sanchez doubled to start off the sixth and eventually scored on an error.
The Silversmiths picked up one more run. Baquer lead off the eighth with a double. He later scored after Kevin Brice (Pomona-Pitzer College) got out at first.
“It was a nice bounce back win,” said Oneonta Head Coach Joe Hughes. “We had a tough loss yesterday.”
Oneonta and Sherrill faced each other, with Sherrill coming out on top after scoring three runs in the top of the ninth.
Westfahl took the loss after giving up ten runs (seven earned) on eight hits over seven innings, while walking three and striking out four.
“I’m pleased with Nate (Westfahl),” said Silversmiths head coach Greg Dombrowski. “He threw better than what his numbers showed. He was aggressive in the zone.”
Taylor Hicks (University of Georgia) got the win after pitching three innings, allowing two runs, striking out two and walking one.
“The pitchers played well,” said Hughes.
Daniel Ferrell (Santa Ana College) and Ben Moxley (Herkimer County CC) pitched hitless innings for the Outlaws. Ferrell pitched 0.2 innings and struck out one, while Moxley took the mound in the ninth, struck out one and walked one.
Jones was the only Oneonta player other than Sanchez with a multi-hit game. He picked up two hits, including a home run and scored three times.
For Sherrill, Tommy Mastrodonato (Monroe CC) pitched in his first game of the season, allowing no hits, walking four and striking out two.
Baquer and Alex Saville (Monroe CC) had two hits apiece. Baquer scored once.
Sherrill (21-18) has a day off before a doubleheader against the Syracuse Salt Cats (20-20) at home. Games times at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Oneonta (24-16) travels to Syracuse to take on the Jr. Chiefs (14-29), Monday. A 7 p.m. first pitch is scheduled at Onondaga Community College.
