With help from an eleven run, eighth inning, the Big Train dominated the FCA Herndon Braves 17-3. The Big Train took a 6-3 lead into the eighth, which they sent 16 hitters to plate. The Big Train took advantage of struggling Braves pitching, they drew 12 walks in the game.
The Big Train are currently sit five and a half games ahead of the Baltimore Redbirds and are hoping that this blowout win will set them back on track. During the last ten games, they have gone 5-5, their worst ten game stretch of the season. Yesterday’s win was the most runs that the Big Train have scored in a game this summer and it matched their season-high for last season.
On their way to the win, Bethesda got a great start from Henry Sisson (North Carolina) who struck out a season-high eight batters in six innings of work, while allowing only two earned runs. Second basemen Brandon Lowe (Maryland) went 2-2 with two doubles while drawing four walks, scoring a season-high five runs, and driving in two runs.
First basemen Chris Lewis (Sacramento State) went 2-3 with three RBI’s and three free passes. Third baseman, Andrew Brown (San Diego State) went 4-6 with a pair of RBI’s and a run scored.
But it wasn’t all good news for the Big Train who found out that All-Star shortstop, Stephen Alemais (Tulane) was shut down for the remainder of the summer by his Tulane coaching staff. Alemais is one of eleven All-Stars on the Big Train, more than any other team. Also the Big Train defense wasn’t in its finest form yesterday committing four errors which allowed the Braves to keep the game close as they cut the lead to 5-3 in the sixth inning and had a chance to tie and take the lead in the next inning. But the Big Train’s patient at bats put the Braves away.
