ONEONTA, N.Y. — For the second straight night, the Oneonta Outlaws swept a doubleheader from the Cortland Crush in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Damaschke Field, Saturday. The Outlaws won game one by a score of 4-2 and the nightcap 4-1.
J.T. Genovese (University of Albany) went five innings for the game-one win. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits and three walks for his second win of the season.
Matthew Engler (Mansfield University) took the loss. He allowed two earned runs on four hits in six innings of work. The southpaw struck out five batters.
Ethan Evanko (Grand Canyon University) earned his second save of the season. He allowed a run on two hits in two innings while striking out three.
The Outlaws opened up the game by scoring two runs on a sacrifice fly by Josh Boland (Herkimer County Community College) and throwing error. Frank D’Agostino (Temple University) added another run later in the inning with an RBI single.

Wesley Burghardt (SUNY Brockport) got the Crush’s first hit of the game in the fifth inning with an RBI single.
Cortland added another run in the sixth when Greg Jasek (Clarkson University) scored on an RBI ground out.
Oneonta added a much needed insurance run when Tyler Martis (Sienna College) scored on a while pitch.
Evanko shut down Cortland 1-2-3 in the seventh.
Taylor Hicks (University of Georgia) earned his fourth win of the season in game two. He pitched five innings and did not allow an earned run. Hicks lowered his ERA to 1.96 on the season.
Ben Barnes (Mohawk Valley Community College) pitched game two for the Crush. He surrendered two runs on six hits. Barnes walked three and struck out two.
Joe Romero (University of Albany) and Daniel Ferrell (Santa Ana College) both pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Oneonta. Ferrell earned his second save of the season.
A botched double play attempt gave Cortland the first run of the game in the top of the first.
The Outlaws quickly responded in the bottom of the inning when Taylor Jones (University of Northern Georgia) broke out of a recent slump and tied the game with an RBI single to right field.
A wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth put the Outlaws ahead when Jimmy Hand (Northeastern) scored the go ahead run.
D’Agostino hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to increase Oneonta’s lead to 3-1.
A bases loaded walk by Ramon Osuna Sanchez (College of Charleston) in the bottom of the sixth to add another run for the Outlaws.
Ben Mauseth went 2-2 with a double, stolen base, and run in the second game. He stole his league leading 28th base of the season.
“Pitching and defense are the key to winning baseball games, and we’ve certainly had good pitching and defense so far in this series,” Outlaws’ coach, Joe Hughes said. “We’re having some productive at bats; we’re moving runners over; we’re driving them in; we’re doing little things to help us score some runs.”
“It’s tough to win games when you score runs but give up more than you score,” Cortland coach, Bill McConnell said.
The Outlaws (16-12) moved within one game of first place Geneva (17-11). Cortland (11-18) will face the Outlaws again Sunday night.
