Welcome to the best episode of Around the Diamond yet. In the opening segment, our host Dave Holcomb breaks down the hot AL Central race. The Indians, Royals and Tigers have each won at least eight of their last ten games. Kansas City swept Minnesota this week, but gained no ground because Cleveland swept Chicago, but they did not grain any ground because Detroit swept Washington.
In the second segment, the show flips to the National League where the Atlanta Braves are on a 11-game winning streak. Even without Pitcher Tim Hudson, Atlanta is running away from the NL East pack. Then, Dave reviews the Pirates series victory over the Cardinals despite St. Louis routing Pittsburgh 13-0 Thursday night.
To conclude, the show features the ‘First to Third’ segment, where Dave discusses Yu Darvish’s 14 strikeouts on Thursday and the upcoming Texas/Oakland series, Boston’s come from behind win Thursday and the Jake Peavy trade, Orioles Manager Buck Showalter’s opinion on how a lifetime ban would actually help the Yankees, and Dodgers’ Pitcher Clayton Kershaw’s ridiculous 1.87 ERA.
