ONEONTA, NY – The Oneonta Outlaws were firing on all cylinders Wednesday night as they shut out the Geneva Red Wings 8-0 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action.
After being shutout in both games of Tuesday’s doubleheader in Syracuse, the Outlaws came home to Damaschke Field and bounced back with the bats, scoring eight runs on 13 hits against the lowly Red Wings.
Oneonta got things rolling the second inning, as Heath Holder (Georgia) drilled a leadoff triple over the center fielder’s head and then scored on a Howard Joe (Mercer) sacrifice fly. Cleanup hitter Brian Kraft (Grand Canyon) provided the biggest spark of the inning when he came to the plate with the bases loaded. The Idaho native promptly hit a bases clearing double to dead center field that just missed clearing the fence for a what would’ve been a grand slam. The Outlaws put together what would eventually be a 6-run second inning against Geneva starter Robert Grippo (Bergen CC).
The Outlaws would later add on two more runs in the fifth on RBI singles from Chris Pindar (Oneonta) and Josh Treff (Northeastern).
Those runs would prove to be more than enough for Oneonta starter Luke Crumley (Georgia) as he rolled through 6 innings, allowing only a pair of hits while striking out four. Crumley got his first win of the season, helping the Outlaws get over the .500 mark.
The Outlaws bullpen followed Crumley and pitched lights out, as they have seemingly all season. A combination of three relievers put together three innings of 1-hit baseball, with closer Brandon Agar (North Georgia) striking out 3 in the ninth and shutting the door on the Red Wings.
The Outlaws are back home on Friday, June 21st, as they’ll look to get revenge on the Syracuse Jr Chiefs and keep the offense going.
