ONEONTA, NY – It took over 4 hours, but the Outlaws eventually managed to get their 4th win of the season Saturday night at Damaschke Field against the Geneva Twins in NYCBL action.
After Zach Fowler (Alabama Southern CC) pitched 7 impressive innings of 1-hit baseball in relief, the Twins brought on Casey MacClaren (Cazenovia) to pitch the bottom of the 13th against the Outlaws. Derek Hirsch (Wofford) greeted the right hander with a perfectly placed bunt single up the 3rd base line. After being advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt, Ryan Tomita (Grand Canyon) stepped to the plate and looped a base hit over the first baseman’s head into right field, scoring Hirsch and ending the game in walk-off fashion.
The winning pitcher for the Outlaws was Brandon Agar (North Georgia), who pitched well once again, striking out 7 in 4.2 innings of relief work.
Facing a Geneva offense that was hitting a mere .190 as a team coming into the game, Outlaws starter Luke Crumley (Georgia) found himself behind quickly in the 1st inning. After allow back-to-back leadoff hits to start the game, Twins 1st baseman Greg Davis (Louisiana Lafayette) hit a hard ground ball that Outlaws 1st baseman Sean Getman (Rhode Island) couldn’t handle, letting both runs come in to score.
The Outlaws responded in the 2nd by loading the bases against Twins starter David Anderson (Muhlenberg). After Getman brought a run in by getting hit by a pitch, Jake Levine (Brown) smacked a 2-run double to left on the first pitch he saw, putting the Outlaws ahead 3-2.
The score stayed put until the top of the 8th, when the Twins loaded the bases against Oneonta reliever Heath Holder (Georgia State) with 1 out. Mike Roman (St. John Fisher) would then tie things up with an RBI single to right, but that would be all as Holder was able to retire the next two batters and strand the bases full.
In the top of the 9th the Outlaws called on Agar with Geneva baserunners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out. The Georgia native would easily take care of the situation by picking off the pinch-runner at 2nd base and striking out the pinch-hitter looking to end the threat.
As the game entered extra innings, Oneonta helped their pitcher out with some fine defense. In the top of the 12th left fielder Spencer Duffie (Mercer) threw a runner out at 2nd trying to stretch a single into a double, and catcher Evan Harasta (UAlbany) threw a runner out trying to steal 3rd.
The Twins tried to get something going again in the 13th as they loaded the bases against Agar with 1 out. The righty responded by inducing a force out at home and then ringing up a big strike out to strand 3 more Geneva baserunners.
Agar put on quite the performance and his win was well deserved as, despite stranding 15 baserunners for the 2nd straight night, the Outlaws came out on top with their 3rd straight victory.
Oneonta will look to stay hot as they take on the Geneva Red Wings on the road tomorrow, June 16th.
