BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior Gabe Knutson and junior Mackey McKnight were named Second Team NABC All-District honorees earlier this week, following in the footsteps of classmate C.J. McCollum who is a three-time First Team selection. Knutson averaged double-figure points for a third straight season to wrap up a stellar four-year career with more than 1,500 points. McKnight increased his scoring and assist totals from his first two seasons and was named a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree.
Knutson finished second on the team in scoring average (13.9), but first in total points (416). All-Patriot League as a junior, Knutson turned it on down the stretch this season. He scored 21 points in the Patriot League Quarterfinals vs. Colgate while adding 23 in the College Basketball Invitational at Wyoming. Knutson also pulled down 4.3 rebounds per game. He finished his career with 1,526 points which stands ninth in school history.
McKnight posted career highs in scoring and assists, averaging 11.9 and (a Patriot League leading) 4.9, respectively. The New Orleans native eclipsed 20 points on five occasions and five assists 18 times. He scored a career-high 25 points at North Texas while adding 22 at Holy Cross and at Lafayette in the Patriot League Semifinals. McKnight grabbed 3.6 rebounds per game and shot 78.8 percent from the free throw line.
Lehigh wrapped up its season with a 21-10 record while advancing to the College Basketball Invitational, the third time in the last four years the Mountain Hawks have eclipsed 20 wins and made a national postseason tournament.
