Charlotte 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose and Men’s Basketball Coach Alan Major have announced that the 49ers have dismissed junior guard DeMario Mayfield from the team for violation of athletic department policy. Mayfield has been suspended since January 30.

Mayfield was averaging a team-high 11.7 points with 3.6 rebounds this season. He recorded 14 double-figure scoring games this season and 33 for his career.

A transfer from the University of Georgia, Mayfield was playing in his second season with the 49ers. He earned his degree from UNC Charlotte in December.

“The coaching staff wants to wish DeMario the best in his future endeavors,” Major said. “We will continue to move forward as a team.”

The 49ers will not comment further on this matter.
