RICHMOND, Va. – Three Flyers registered double-doubles as #17/15 Dayton women’s basketball downed Atlantic 10 newcomer VCU 60-49 at the Verizon Wireless Arena Wednesday night.
Sophomore Andrea Hoover led UD with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Cassie Sant had 12 points and 10 rebounds and senior Olivia Applewhite had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Dayton improves to 18-1 overall and 6-0 in A-10 play, while the Rams drop to 8-13 overall and 1-5 in league action.
The Flyers used a 19-0 run to pull away midway through the first half. UD held the Rams scoreless for nearly eight minutes, only allowing VCU two quick baskets in the final 22 seconds of the half as Dayton jumped to a 37-19 lead after the first 20 minutes. It marks the 14th half this year that the Flyers have allowed an opponent 23 points or less.
VCU used 10-0 run over 2:25 to pull with 57-42 with 3:31 to play in the game. The Rams got as close as 58-49 with 1:18 left in the game. The Flyers missed four shots and had six turnovers in the final 5:55 of the game, after having just five turnovers in the entire first half.
Dayton dominated in points in the paint 36-16 and won the rebounding battle 42-37.

Notes: Applewhite picked up the third double-double of her career. Sant notched the second of her career and first this season. Hoover grabbed her fourth double-double of the season, also the fourth in her career.
