CINCINNATI – It was a Pink Out in Cintas Center as the Xavier women’s basketball team downed Atlantic 10 foe Richmond for the largest victory of the season, 76-60. The Musketeers were led by senior Tyeasha Moss who contributed a game-high 26 points, one shy of tying her career high, and four assists.
Xavier improved to 7-17 overall and 4-7 in the A-10 and notched its fourth win in six games. Richmond dropped to 20-6 overall and 7-4 in conference action.
The Musketeers did not disappoint from the field, shooting a season-high 62.7 percent (32-of-51). Richmond shot well below its season average, hitting 42.1 percent (24-of-57) of its shots.
Xavier went on a shooting frenzy, outscoring Richmond 28-14 midway through the second half, The Musketeers shot a blistering 68.2 percent from the field in the second period.
Freshman Lakeisha Crouch recorded her second-consecutive double-double posting 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore Shatyra Hawkes dished out a career-high and game-high tying eight assists and contributed nine points. Junior Jessica Pachko went 6-for-6 from the field for 13 points and seven rebounds, and junior Amber Gray netted 10 points.
Xavier had a nine-point advantage at halftime, 38-29. Moss led XU scorers with 12 points while Crouch added eight points and six rebounds at the break. The Musketeers shot a season-best 58.6 percent from the field (17-of-29) while the Spiders shot 43.9 percent (12-of-28). Xavier won the battle of the boards in the first 20 minutes, 18-12 and six players had four or more points in the first half for XU.
The Musketeers went on a 25-9 run midway through the first half to take a 34-20 lead with 8:46 remaining. During the run Moss contributed eight points including a 3-pointer while Crouch added six points.
Richmond was led by Abby Oliver who scored 20 points and Becca Wann who grabbed seven rebounds.
Xavier will hit the road and travel to St. Bonaventure to take on the Bonnies on Saturday Feb. 18. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
