Halton Arena — Charlotte 49ers standout freshman point guard Pierria Henry (Charleston, W. Va.) will be sidelined for approximately two weeks following a first degree MCL sprain in his left knee, suffered in practice this week.
Henry, who has been the 49ers starting point guard in all 18 games is averaging 7.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game. He currently ranks fifth in the nation in steals per game — and is on pace to break the 49ers freshman record for steals in a season. Henry has had at least one steal in all 18 games and multiple steals in 15 games.
Named A-10 co-Rookie of the Week, Jan. 16, Henry was also tabbed by ESPN.com’s Dana O’Neil as the A-10 Freshman of the Year (so far) at the start of conference play. He scored in double figures in 4 of the 49ers 5 A-10 games and recently added a career-high with 7 assists vs. Kennesaw State. Against A-10 foes, Henry is averaging 9.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 3.0 steals. His season highs this year are 13 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
In other roster news, junior forward KJ Sherrill will miss the Jan. 25 Temple game while serving a one-game suspension for an undisclosed team rules violation. Sherrill is averaging 3.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 13.0 minutes per game. He has made two starts in 18 games played.
