Rochester RazorSharks forward Jamaal Davis finished with 23 points and 17 rebounds as he helped power the RazorSharks past the Lake Michigan Admirals 112-100 in front of 4,392 fans at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY.
The RazorSharks had the lead over the Admirals in the entire game, but Lake Michigan would never go away, always keeping the score close.
“We executed our offense well,” said Admirals Head Coach Che Eddie. “But our defensive rotation was lacking and we did not finish enough rebounds, so it dug us a hole we could not get out of.”
Leading the way for the Admirals were Florentino Valencia with 24 points and 7 rebounds, Shagari Alleyne with 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Rodney Alexander and Steve Strong, who both finished with 13 points.
An unlikely scoring source in Brandon Webster helped lead the RazorSharks, as he finished with 13 points and 3 rebounds in 19 minutes, all season highs. Webster was inactive for the first two games of the season, but saw a spark in playing time today due to his performance.
“It was a good experience,” said Webster. “I haven’t played a real [basketball] game in two years, so it felt good. It shows you never know who is going to do well and today I did what I had to do to help the team.”
Other contributing RazorSharks included Tasheed Carr’s 25 points and 6 assists, Johnny Mayhane’s 10 points, and Jerice Crouch and Melvin Council, who both finished with 5 assists each.
“We are getting better, but still have some work to do,” said RazorSharks Head Coach Rod Baker. “We still need to become more reliable on defense, but that is why we practice.”
The win puts the RazorSharks at 4-1, while dropping the Admirals to 0-2.
