NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple’s Kristen McCarthy and George Washington’s Tara Booker have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The recipients were recognized for their performances for games played during the week of Jan. 2-8. McCarthy was also named the Big 5 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, alongside Temple’s Khalif Wyatt who earned men’s basketball’s weekly honor.
McCarthy averaged 18.5 points in a 2-0 week for Temple, including a 64-52 victory at Western Michigan and a come-from-behind, 56-55, triumph in the Owls’ A-10 opener at Richmond. The La Puente, Calif., native drained the game-winning bucket with 0.2 second remaining in regulation, as the Owls handed host Richmond a 56-55 loss at the Robins Center. McCarthy posted her third double-double of the season against the Spiders, tallying a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. She also scored 19 points against Western Michigan, while adding five rebounds and four steals. McCarthy shot 48.4 percent from the field for the week (15-of-31) and averaged 8.0 rebounds.
McCarthy was also named the College Sports Madness A-10 Player of the Week, and earned Pickin’ Splinters Performance of the Week award.
