The Spiders (7-2) play at North Carolina State Thursday at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.
The Latest:
• Four Spiders finished in double figures to lead Richmond to a 75-60 win over UNC Greensboro on Saturday.
• Richmond led by as many as 25 points in the second half as the team improved to 7-2 on the season. Senior Abby Oliver finished with a game-high 19 points, Genevieve Okoro added 12, as did Rachael Bilney. Becca Wann scored a season-high 10 points.
• Richmond dominated the paint with a 32-18 advantage and scored 18 second chance points due largely in part to the fact the Spiders out rebounded the Spartans by a 45-29 margin. The 45 total rebounds tied a Spider season-high. Richmond dished a game-high 14 assists, led by Bilney’s four. In addition to Wann, Keri Soppe and Kristina King also posted season-highs with six and seven points,respectively.
• Richmond leads all Division I schools with a 84 percent mark from the foul line, and sunk a season-high 22-of-25 attempts against VCU Dec.1. The Spiders recorded their best game percentage-wise at the line against Virginia (12-for-13, 92.3%). Abby Oliver, Rachael Bilney and Genevieve Okoro are shooting 86 percent or better from the line. • Richmond has three players averaging double figures in Oliver (15.9 ppg), Okoro (12.1 ppg) and RachaelBilney (12.0 ppg).
• Two-sport athlete Becca Wann was named to the NSCAA/NCAA Division I All-American first team. It was the second time in program history a Spider had earned the honor, the first time for a sophomore. Head coach Peter Albright has had four All-Americans in his tenure.
• Thursday’s game in Raleigh marks the first out-of-state trip for the Spiders since its Nov. 25 game at Florida Gulf Coast. Richmond has enjoyed playing three of the last four games at home. Richmond’s other “away” game was at cross-town rival VCU.
The Teams:
• The Wolfpack is the second ACC opponent in three games the Spiders will face. Richmond dropped a 69-56 decision to visiting Virginia Dec. 4 at the RobinsCenter.
• Richmond pulled out the 81-75 win Nov. 20, 2010 at the Robins Center in theseries’ last meeting. Oliver had 19 points and Kristina King tallied 10.
• The Spiders are well connected to N.C. State as Amber Nichols is a Raleigh native and Amber Battle’s parents both had successful basketball careers for the Wolfpack. Father Alvin Battle won a National Championship in 1983.
• SERIES’ LAST MEETING: Richmond hit 10 of its first 11 shots and never looked back en route to a 81-75 victory over the Wolfpack Nov. 20, 2010 in the Robins Center. Abby Oliver had 19 points and Kristina King added 10.
• Richmond Lately: The Spiders are coming off a 75-60 win over UNCG. Richmond had four in double figures, led by Abby Oliver’s 19 points. Rachael Bilney and Genevieve Okoro added 12, while Becca Wann contributed aseason-high 10 points.
• NC State Lately: The Wolfpack is coming off a 79-57 win over Alabama Sunday. NC State had three in double figures, led byMarissa Kastanek’s 13 points. NC State has won two in a row at home.
Up Next:
• Richmond hosts Liberty Tues. Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. in the first of two doubleheaders with the men’s team. Richmond men host ODU at 7 p.m. later that night.
