Richmond hosts Boston University Friday at 7 p.m. at the Robins Center.
The Latest:
- Five Spiders scored in double figures as Richmond cruised past rival William & Mary, 77-57, Monday night at the Robins Center. The game was Richmond’s first with five players in double figures since a season-opening win over Kennesaw State Nov. 14, 2008.
- Richmond won its fourth in a row over William & Mary and improved to 88-22 in the historic series. Shafer improved to 4-1 against his alma mater. The Spiders’ tallied a game-high 14 steals and outrebounded the Tribe, 41-30. Richmond also sunk a season-high 34 field goals and shot 48.6 percent from the field.
- Abby Oliver led five Spiders in double-figures with a game-high 19 points. Oliver is only nine points away from becoming the 18th Spider in Richmond women’s basketball history to record 1,000 points or more in their career.
- Rachael Bilney scored in double-figures for the second time in as many games, and freshmen Miah Register and Liz Brown notched the first double-figure performances of their careers. Genevieve Okoro also added 12 points. Kristina King scored six points in her first game of the season, as she sat out the Navy contest due to ankle injury.
- Richmond boasts three players averaging double figures through two games, with Oliver leading the charge at 14.5 ppg. Bilney follows with 11.5 ppg and Okoro comes in at 11.0 ppg. The Spiders are outscoring their opponents by 18.5 ppg. Richmond’s stingy defense is only allowing 48.0 ppg.
- The Spiders made a season-best 34 baskets in the win over the Tribe, and are shooting 44 percent from the field. Four Spiders are shooting 50 percent orbetter from the field. Oliver leads the team with 11 field goals thus far.
The Teams:
- Boston University visits the Robins Center for the first time in the series’ history. Richmond was previously set to host the Terriers at home last December but the game was canceled due to inclement weather.
- The two teams have only met one other time, a 75-72 Spider win in the La Salle Invitational in 1994. The Terriers are the first of two America East opponents the Spiders host this season. Hartford, the other America East member, comes to the Robins Center Dec. 22. Boston University was chosen to finish second in the America East conference and reigning Player of the Year Chantell Alford was a preseason first team selection.
